![]() Since the late 1970's Bob Staunton has been working on call as a Swing Jockey for the BBC. Only contracted for 50 hours a year, the appeal of broadcasting (his only love following precarious marital problems) has motivated Bob to rally for a regular 9pm slot on Southern Counties. Running in place of what was Tommy Boyd's first hour every Saturday at 9pm has caused some bitter rivalry between the two. And this site can confirm that Boyd has been a complete arse hole over this whole matter trying to get Bob sacked. And no I am not a huge Tommy Boyd fan, -- he's a tosser! Bob Staunton does his current BBC Southern Counties show from home in Gloucestershire which gets relayed to the BBC who have farmed out his switchboard to a call centre in Calcutta. The Calcutta swithcboard is currently being manned by Sandeep. He got into radio in South Africa and Australia while "doing the world" in the early sixties, then worked for Radio Kristabelle, a pirate station, as Robbie Samson. Missed out on Radio 1 in 1968 but was second choice for the afternoon show. Tried running a restaurant, art gallery and novel-writing then became manager of pop group "Tough Bovine" who had a top thirty hit in 1975 with "Brave to the Bone". Hired by BRMB in Birmingham 1979, stayed loyal to parochial radio. In 1983 Bob becamed bankrupt when a self-employed venture into parrot-breeding was shut down by the RSPB for reasons undisclosed. In 1985 he started up again in Animal Rescue projects which he ceased in 1987 and sold his business. Six months before that he was rushed to hospital for an emergency operation after being bitten in the groin by an Alsation. He played an uncredited non-speaking driver in one of the Roger Moore Bond movies in the 80's. In 1993 Bob entered television advertising and was the main voice-over artist for MacVities Jaffa Cakes.
